I'm saddened to hear about Art's passing. Although I had not seen him since we graduated from Monticello High in 1966, he remained an important part of my childhood memories. I lived around the corner and our backyards adjoined. My path to his house is probably still visible today. We played together as kids, and then went into his house to make our favorite mayonnaise and sugar sandwiches on white bread. Then we would go next door to his grandmother's house, running in through the back door, and straight to the refrigerator for the glass gallon jar of ice-cold spring water which was always there. Sometimes we would ride with his grandmother in her black '49 Ford 4-door sedan to her homeplace in Westbrookville to fill many jugs from the spring she enjoyed in her youth. On Arthur's birthday and Christmas morning I would be at his house to see which new Tonka toy he had received. We would play for hours with these wonderful metal trucks, front-end loaders, graders, etc. I can still recognize the fragrance of Mary & Fred's work clothes from the perfume factory. The backyards of Arthur's and his grandmother's were the favorite place for neighborhood baseball games including the Harris, Smith, and Richardson kids. We also played along Tannery Brook and Indian Rocks behind us. Such a wonderful & innocent childhood we enjoyed together!
My heart-felt condolences to Marie and all of Art's family. I hope you will find love and caring from family and friends to help you through this sad loss.
With Love,
Jeff Gitlin

Mark Schulman and family conveys their heartfelt sympathy to Sue and family for their loss of a loving husband and father. I grew up a block away from Art in the good old days of Monticello and have wonderful memories. Art, like his father, was one of a kind. We will miss you Art.
