Obituary of Mark Francis Cahalan

Mark Francis Cahalan of Monticello, a warehouse worker for Sullivan Industries in Monticello, died Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 69. The son of the late Paul Cahalan and Marguerite Woods Cahalan, he was born September 8, 1946 in Monticello. Mark attended special education classes at Monticello Schools and after he graduated, he opened Mark's Gift Barn in his family's backyard. After trying that for six months, he went to work for Occupations in Middletown, where he took the Shortline bus to work everyday. He then went on to work at the shelter workshop at Sullivan ARC until retiring. During his younger years, Marks enjoyed riding his bicycle up and down Clinton Avenue where his family had their home for 50+ years. He had a very close bond with his brother Denis, whom he traveled with over the years, even going to Ireland. Denis was his hero and now resides in Middletown. Mark was a longtime member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Monticello and enjoyed going to Dunkin Donuts every day, sometimes twice a day. Family & friends are invited to gather on Monday, December 7 from 12:00 - 1:30pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 2pm at St. Peter's Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello.
