Obituary of John G. Mennella

John G. Mennella of Mountaindale passed away Sunday, February 19th, 2012 unexpectedly at his residence. He was 46. John was born in Queens NY on July 14th 1965, the first child of the late Marie F. Mennella and Giovanni Mennella. John lived on Long Island for 26 years, graduating Herricks High School in 1984. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Garden City Park Fire Department Engine Company 4 for 10 years also serving as past lieutenant, before moving to the Hudson Valley when he was 26 where he worked along side his family as a chef in his family's restaurant business. John was an amazing cook. From a young age he was an avid lover of trucks, cars and mechanics and was a truly dedicated employee for Casa Redimix in the Bronx, NY where he worked in quality control. John was predeceased by his mother Marie in 2005. Survivors include his father, Giovanni Mennella and his wife, Julie of Wurtsboro NY; his sister, Maria and her husband, Robert Ammann of Williston Park NY; his brother, Anthony Mennella and his wife, Jacqueline of Ellenville NY. John will especially be sadly missed by his loving nephews and niece, Matthew, Michelle and Nicholas Ammann, who he shared countless laughs and good times with. John touched many lives and also leaves behind the broken hearts of his many friends and family. Friends and family may come to call on Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny funeral home 111 Sullivan Street Wurtsboro, NY. His funeral mass will be celebrated Friday morning at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wurtsboro, NY. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
