Obituary of John Dollard

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Dollard, 70 of Monticello, NY passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was the son of the late Vincent and Kathryn Dollard. John grew up in Rock Hill and was a lifelong resident of the area. John followed in his father's footsteps and became an electrician. John was a big success in his field and was a 50-year member of IBEW Local 363. Soon after high school, John went to work for the Boris Shalman Electric Company. After working there for many years, he bought the company with his partner John Hendrix who was a special person in his life. John considered him another brother. John was always grateful to have Stanley Rembish and Chris Derienzo as employees for over 20 years. They were great friends and fantastic electricians. After John Hendrix retired, John had the privilege of working alongside his son Ed, until John decided to retire. He always said these were the best years in business, working with his son and seeing him grow as a man and a tradesman. The hundreds of customers John had over the years had a lot in common. When they hired John, they all were getting someone who was very honest with unquestioned integrity who provided the highest quality of work possible. They all hired an electrical contractor and ended up with a good friend. John came from a large family. He was the first born, the number one son. We always looked up to John. He watched out for us growing up and showed us the way. Nothing changed in adulthood. We always knew we could count on our big brother no matter what. John was a larger than life character with his big handle bar mustache, hearty laugh and kind demeanor. He was someone you were not going to forget after meeting him. He was the kind of person whose word was sacred. The only immortality anyone can hope for is to live on in the memories of others. Because of who John was and how he related to others, he will be remembered by many for a long, long time John is survived by his son Ed and daughter Mary Kay. His brothers Mike and wife Adrianne, Patrick and wife Arlene, Tim and wife Susan, Peter and wife Daria, Vince, sister Alice and husband Glenn and his many cousins, nieces and nephews who were very dear to him. The family would like to recognize John's circle of very close friends who are far too many to mention by name. We know we can speak for all of you in saying you feel fortunate he was part of your life. John was predeceased by his daughter Heather, his brother Ed, his niece Lindsay and nephew Justin. John was a Life Member of the Rock Hill Fire Department and a former member of their Dive Team. The family would like to express our appreciation to the fire department for the beautiful tribute to John on the front of the firehouse. It meant a lot to us. We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming number of people who shared their condolences and kind words. We will be forever grateful. Special thanks to longtime friend and neighbor Larry Zigarelli. John was a very private man who never wanted anyone to make a fuss about him. To honor John's wishes, there will be no visiting hours or funeral. All arrangements will be private and at the convenience of the family. A memorial celebration of John's life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name can be made to the Rock Hill Fire Department. Arrangements are under direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello. For additional information or to send an online condolence please visit www. kennyfuneralhome. com
