Obituary of Susan G. Speer

Susan G. Speer, a receptionist for Catskill Dermatology in Monticello, died Monday, October 3, 2016 at her home in Monticello after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 66. The daughter of Nellie Shaw Culligan and the late Floyd Culligan, she was born August 1, 1950 in Monticello. Susan was someone who always thought of others before herself. She was totally dedicated to her family, loved the simple joys in life, took pride in her home and enjoyed spending time in her garden. She wanted to thank everyone that stood by her side during her couragous battle with cancer. It gave her the strength to keep up the fight. She often was more worried about others than her own situation. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Philip J. Speer at home; two sons, Shawn P. Speer and his wife, Amanda of Tuckahoe, and Kevin J. Speer and his fiance, Caitlin Devlin of Monticello; two granddaughters, Addyson Speer and Sofia Devlin; her mother, Nellie Culligan of Monticello; a brother, Tim Culligan and his wife, Beth of Monticello; a sister, Kathy Kelley of Monticello; her mother-in-law, Zita Speer of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, October 5 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello, with Fr. Stanislaus Ogbonna officiating.
