Obituary of Denis J. Cahalan

Denis J. Cahalan, a longtime resident of Middletown, passed away at Park Manor Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on Sunday, September 4, 2016. He was 73. He was born in Monticello, NY on September 16, 1942 to the late Paul and Marguerite (Woods) Cahalan. He had a younger brother, Mark, who predeceased him in November 2015. Denis was a graduate of Monticello High School and New Paltz College. He was an elementary teacher in the Middletown School District for thirty years, and a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He is survived by his cousins: Patricia (Cahalan) McLucas, Judith (Woods) Stringer, Patricia (Woods) Moser and Michael Woods. He also leaves behind his devoted friends Meredith Lloyd and Dave Myer, who were like family to him. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, September 7 from 11am-1pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 2:00pm at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. John Tran officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Strober for his care of Denis over all the years, and also the staff of Park Manor for the compassion and care of Denis during these past few weeks.
