Raymond Brendan Galvin's life of service and dedication to his country and others ended on June 7, 2016. He died peacefully at St. Josephs Place in Port Jervis, New York. He was 96 years old. He bravely faced the many trials in his life with dignity, respect, prayer, love, and a sense of humor. Raymond was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on November 12, 1919. He was the youngest of fourteen children born to Ellen Maughan and Joseph Michael Galvin. He is predeceased by his wife, Doris Galvin, the love of his life for 69 years; his sisters, Kay Jobaggy, Margaret Whalen, Ann, Virginia and May Galvin; and his brothers, John, Thomas, William, Michael, Patrick, James, Joseph and Fred Galvin. He is survived by his daughter Barbara and husband David Vazquez of Wurtsboro, New York; his daughter Patricia and husband George Angelinovich of Millsboro, Delaware; his grandson Louis Franzetti and his wife Amie of Indianapolis, Indiana; his grandson Paul Franzetti and his wife Tara of Richmond, Virginia; his two great-grandchildren Lauren and Nicholas Franzetti of Indianapolis, Indiana; his many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and great-great-great-nieces and nephews. He was the beloved patriarch and last surviving elder of a very large and extended family. Raymond served in World War II in Italy and was a proud veteran. He loved to talk about his war experiences. He served five years with distinction in the Army Air Corps. The patriotism he learned never left him, as friends and family will attest. His trip to Washington D.C. with the Hudson Valley Honor Flight Program was one of the most memorable experiences of his life. Raymond worked for United Parcel Service for over 30 years and won many awards for safe, accident free driving. Ray was an avid bowler, loved the slot machines and card games. He was an officer for the Bergen County Youth Bowling League and the Stan Niemiec Traveling League for 25 years and raised thousands of dollars for youth scholarships to college. Raymond was a member of the Mamakating Seniors Club, where he did the 50/50 raffles, and of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Wurtsboro, N.Y. He served as the Regional Director of the 44th District for the Alhambra for 10 years and served as a Grand Commander. He was a District Warden for the Knights of Columbus. Ray would want you to be happy, live life to its fullest, make sure you have no regrets, and he'll see you on the other side. We would like to thank the staff at St. Josephs Place, in Port Jervis, N.Y., for the excellent care and kindness Ray received.
