Clarence Witherspoon Jr. of Monticello, a retired truck driver for Mayfair Trading in South Fallsburg, passed away Friday May 27, 2016 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 76. The son of late Clarence Witherspoon Sr. and Mattie Carven Witherspoon, he was born in Uniontown, Alabama. He is survived by his wife Lena Witherspoon, sons Steven Witherspoon, Clarence (Katina) Witherspoon III, two daughters Debra (Ernest) Witherspoon-Benders and Rhonda (Diashawn) Thomas-Corbett all of Monticello; a brother in law James Perry of Pittsburgh, PA; 20 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sister Celeste Perry. Clarence was a loving father, grandfather and friend, and was well known for his words of wisdom and funny jokes to bring a smile. He was surely a lover of horse racing and travel, and could always be found at Monticello Raceway ready to place his bet on the races. He will be greatly missed by all. Family and Friends are invited to gather on Sunday, June 5 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home 401 Broadway in Monticello. His Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 6 at 1:00pm at Kings Chapel Mission, 15 Spring Street in Monticello with Pastor Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.
