Obituary of David E. Smith Sr.

David Edward Smith Sr. of White Lake, a retired sheet metal worker for Local Union #38, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 72. The son of the late Cyril "Dick" Smith and Mary Pearson Smith, he was born January 10, 1944 in Winchester, Mass. Dave was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the VFW Bailey Richman Post #9588 Monticello. Survivors include his wife: Ellen, at home; his children: David Smith Jr. (Adrienne) of Highland, Janet Hecht (Stephen) of Colchester, Jillian Smith of Kauneonga Lake and Troy Smith of White Lake; grandchildren: Stacey, Alexis, Jared, Stephen and Owen; one great grandchild; two brothers: Duke Smith of Jacksonville, FL and Donnie Smith of Monticello; two sisters: Mary Dollard and Janet Price, both of Rock Hill; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother: Richard "Dickie" Smith. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, April 29 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30 at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. David Coon officiating.
