Obituary of Geraldine Dent Armstead

Geraldine Dent Armstead, 66, of Monticello, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 surrounded by family and friends, after a short battle with cancer. She was born January 29, 1947 to the late James Eugene and Julia S. Dent of Charleston, SC. Geraldine lived in Monticello for 50 years. She attended school at the College of Charleston and enjoyed cooking, knitting and shopping. She is survived by her sons: Christopher Leo Armstead of Monticello and Jason Armstead of Phoenix, AZ; her daughter: Rhonda Thomas of Monticello; her four cherished grandchildren: Kenneth, Latise, Sanai and A'mayia all of Monticello; along with a host of nieces, nephews and family members. Geraldine was admired and loved by her sister: Dr. Janie Dent Pertillar of West Hartford, CT; and her two brothers: Jimmy Dent of Monticello and Jesse Dent (Nicole) of Phoenix, AZ. She worked at the ARC and retired in 2006. She was a member of the "Red Hats Club" and the Progressive Democratic Women's Organization. Special thanks to the staff at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center in Hartford and Avon, CT along with the Hospice staff from Sullivan County, NY. Geraldine's positive attitude was ever present and she was always there with kindness, wisdom, empathy and an embracing smile. That contagious smile and laughter brought happiness to all who knew her. Even through her bout with cancer, she maintained a positive attitude of faith and hope, and always had a smile on her beautiful face. Geraldine taught many how to love and laugh, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Family & friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, April 16, from 4-5pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will begin at 5:00pm at the funeral home.
