Obituary of Daisy Louise Ellis

Daisy Louise Ellis, a retired beautician and longtime resident of Monticello, died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 67. The daughter of Carrie Easley Johnson and the late Emanuel Johnson, she was born August 31, 1948 in Milledgeville, Georgia, and moved to Monticello in the early 1960's. After becoming licensed as a beautician in the late 70's, she opened the first of several salons she operated in the area. Daisy was also an active member of the community over the years, and participated in numerous local civic organizations and causes. In recent years, she founded Love and Hope, a non-profit organization that distributed toys to kids during the Christmas season. She was also a foster mom to numerous young boys and girls who have become productive members of the community. Daisy was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church. Daisy is survived by four sons: Gregory Johnson (Yvette Johnson), Richard Ellis, Jr. (Yolanda Ellis), Darren Christopher Ellis (Monique Robles), and Chad Washington (Tiffany Poole), twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her mother, Carrie Johnson, brothers, Emanuel (Lucille) and Tommie (Shirley) Johnson, sister, Carolyn (Artie) Bolden, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, March 11 at noon at the First Baptist Church, 28 Liberty Street in Monticello with Rev. James Matthews officiating. Viewing is from 11am-12pm at the church. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.
