Obituary of Sheila Lynne Abbott

Please share a memory of Sheila to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sheila Lynne Abbott, a former waitress and lifelong resident of the area, died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at her home in South Fallsburg, surrounded by her family. She was 66. The daughter of the late Itha David Becker and Lorraine Anita Tyler Becker, she was born October 12, 1946 in Middletown. Sheila loved her small family and her capacity for love and generosity extended to her friends who she loved as well. She was extremely kind and generous and was always willing to share whatever she had with anyone who needed nurturing. Sheila was loved by everyone who met her as she provided them with kindness and respect. Her love extended to her friends and her family's friends as well. She thought of all of her children's friends as her own and loved when her house was filled with happy people. Sheila was an excellent cook and loved to serve big comfortable meals were people could gather and share stories and play games of cards or board games. Sheila loved nature and being outside with her hands in the dirt. Gardening flowers and vegetables was her favorite pastime and her ability to coax beauty and growth out of any plant was evident inside and outside of her home. She loved feeding and watching the birds around her home and was a parent to many pets. Sheila welcomed not only cats and dogs but also birds, fish, gerbils, hamsters, turtles, frogs and reptiles when her children brought them home. Sheila loved music, of all styles, with a special place in her heart for the blues, female soul singers, Motown and classic rock. She enjoyed attending many concerts with her family and friends and had an extensive collection of music at home. Sheila's love for her only grandchild was infinite and always told him and showed him he was loved and shared hugs and kisses over the phone when they could not be together. She never missed an opportunity to show others his picture and brag about him. The time they spent together is evident in his gentle and empathic nature. She was generous with her love, wisdom, advice and affection and encouraged us all to share whatever good we had with others. She is survived by her husband and companion: Edward R. Abbott, at home; a daughter: Faith Lynne Abbott-Bowden & her husband Roger of Wurtsboro; a son: Edward L. Abbott of the state of Florida; a grandson: Luke Bowden; a sister: Sheryl Lynne Kuhn of Blossburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Family & friends are invited to gather on Sunday, April 7 from 2-5pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
