Donald Francis Sergeant, a retired area plumber, died Monday, February 8, 2016 at his home in White Lake. He was 88. Don was born on August 12, 1927 at 42 North Street in Monticello, NY to Francis and Fannie (Robinson) Seargent, joining his siblings Douglas (now deceased), Margaret McNeely, Gertrude Gipson and Claire Hembt. Don graduated from Monticello High School and served in the Army Air Corps towards the end of World War II. He married the love of his life, his bride of 66 years: Bertha "Bobbie" Bell on September 18, 1949. Bobbie survives Don, along with their children: Judith (Fritz) Zwicker, Wayne (Irene) Seargent and Donna (Lee) Stackhouse; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; his three sisters; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong and new friends. In addition to being a lifelong member of the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian, Don was a member of the Ruddick-Trowbridge American Legion Post #73 in Monticello, and retired after 50 years in the plumbing and heating trade. He also enjoyed Yankee baseball, many chats with family and friends, and hunting. He spent many years at "Camp" where family bonds were kept strong, and stories were told around the fire. He was a gentleman, honest, well loved and kind man, whose companionship will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, February 13 from 1-3pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held at 4pm on Saturday at the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian, 11 Jones Street in Monticello, with Rev. Johanna Andritz officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested all memorial contributions be made to the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian, 11 Jones Street, Monticello, NY 12701.
