Obituary of Maria E. Macedo Ramos

Maria E. Macedo Ramos, a retail associate who worked for numerous local businesses throughout Sullivan County in her career, a homemaker, and a devoted family woman, died on December 25, 2015, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla surrounded by many who loved her, when she left to heaven. Sons and daughter at her bedside, holding her hand. She was 68 years old. The daughter of the late Arnulfo and Maximinia Macedo, Maria was born in Peru where she finished her primary schooling and later came to the United States to continue her education after being accepted at Columbia University. Maria is remembered as a "friend to whoever needed a friend and would give anything to anyone in need and never ask for it in return." She was the long time companion of Elias Cabrera, who predeceased her in 2009. Maria was well known around Monticello. Her smile was infectious and one that people looked forward to each day. Friends say she had a smart reply for nonsense and words of encouragement when you needed them. She is survived by her devoted children, Peter and Percy Ramos, and Roxanne Castillo, all of Monticello; her brother, Alejandro Macedo, of Peru; her beloved grandchildren, Gabriel Ramos, Elijah Ramos, Kaitlin Ramos, Elgin Young, Arron Young, and Tayla Young; as well as her great grand sons, Israel and Elijah. Family and Friends are invited to gather on Friday, January 8 from 6pm-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home 401 Broadway, Monticello. Her funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 9, at 10am, at the St. Peters RC Church, 10 Liberty Street, Monticello. Burial will follow in the St. Peters Cemetery in Monticello.
