Evelyn A. DeGuzman of Wurtsboro, a self-employed real estate manager, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 59. The daughter of the late Frank Knight and Helen E. Becker Knight, she was born January 30, 1956 in Brooklyn. Evelyn was an amazing mother, spouse, sibling, and grandmother. She started Refco Management Company in 1989 and headed it with great pride. She was a loyal friend and a strong, determined businesswoman. Evelyn was deeply devoted to Refco Management and her business relationships; however, she truly believed that her family was her greatest gift. She is survived by her spouse, Leo Therrien; her three sons: Renato DeGuzman Jr., his wife, Francine, and their two daughters, Charlotte and Lila, Frank DeGuzman, his partner, Kim, and their daughter, Athena, Richard DeGuzman, his wife, Kelly, and their soon-to-be son, Richard II; and her brothers and sisters. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 19th, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro, NY with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Following mass a reminiscent gathering will be held next door at the hall. The family simply requests all wear their biggest smile and bring along their favorite story of Evelyn.
