Obituary of Dorothy M. Enright

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Mary Enright, 97 of Monticello NY entered into eternal rest on December 1, 2015 of natural causes at the home of her son, Richard Michael Enright "Mike" and his wife, Lydia, with her beloved cat Baby by her side. Dorothy was born in Brooklyn on January 24, 1918 to Cyril T. Smith and Mary T. Ryan Smith. Dorothy loved to work and kept busy. She worked every day with her family at home raising chickens, and owned horses that she gave riding lessons at various locations, such as "The Laurels" and "Camp Sequoia". Dorothy continued to work at home with the family business, and worked for 28 years at Miss Monticello Diner, then drove a bus for the Monticello school district bus garage. She retired at the age of 65, but then continued to work for the office for the aging, retiring from there at the age of 82. Dorothy loved working outside. Many would see her as they drove by her residence on Route 42, shoveling in the winter, or mowing in the summer, or raking leaves in the fall. Dorothy loved to talk of life's journey - some stories were insightful, but most were funny. She had no problems standing up for her beliefs. She was as tough as she was loving. Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard Charles in 1982; father, Cyril T. Smith 1979; mother, Mary T. Ryan Smith 1973, one brother, Cyril J. "Dick" Smith 2013; a nephew, Richard "Dickie" Smith 2014 and a brother-in-law, George V. Oakes 1993. Dorothy is survived by her only child, Richard "Mike" Enright, and his wife, Lydia; one sister, Patricia "Patty" Oakes, all of Monticello NY; many nieces, nephews; two grandchildren and their spouses; and four great grandchildren. Dorothy's wishes for a private cremation will be honored and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. We would like to express our thanks for the support and help from the Hospice family: Nancy, Maria, Martha, Margaret and Pastor Brother Tom, whom helped make mom's wish of spending her final days at home with family come true. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello; for additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com
