Obituary of Florence Weathers

Florence Gilchrist Weathers, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died Monday, November 30, 2015 at her home in Monticello. She was 89. Born May 23, 1926 in Sanford, FL, Florence was a deaconess at the Monticello Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was the widow of Jack Weathers, who predeceased her on September 22, 2013. Florence attended the adult daycare at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty for 22 years. She enjoyed arts and crafts, and spending time with her family on the holidays. She is survived by two daughters: Vivian Weathers Williams & her husband Eddie of Walstonburg, NC, and Shirley Weathers of Monticello; grandchildren: Monique Hyacinthe, Erica Pace, Tiffany Weathers, Kalondra Smith, Ellore Weathers, Kenesha Weathers-Simpson & her husband Dexter Simpson and Trawnda Childs; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, including Jack and Shirley Smith. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three sons: Harold, Jerome and Henry Weathers; many brothers and sisters; and a grandson: Derrick Finn. Family & friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, December 9 from 11am - 1pm at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 26 Liberty Street in Monticello. Her service will begin at 1:00pm at the church. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the family would be appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc.
