Obituary
Obituary of Alex Rey Jr.
Please share a memory of Alex to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that the Rey Family announce the passing of Alex Rey Jr., on November 26th at the age of 36. Alex is survived by his loving parents, Alex and Myrna, and his younger sister, Amanda, as well as his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Alex was born into the loving arms of his parents on March 30th, 1979, in White Plains, NY. As a child he quickly developed a fondness for sports, and enjoyed spending time outdoors before eventually growing into an athlete. He attended Burke Catholic High School in Goshen, NY and was a member of the school's basketball team before graduating in 1997. He was the ultimate New York sports fan with a notable and irritating exception for the Miami Dolphins despite his dad's greatest efforts to make him a New York Jets fan.
Alex will be remembered for the time he spent in the company of his countless friends and loving family. He was a kind young man with a quick wit, big laugh and the best hugs. He was outwardly confident and inwardly humble. He filled every room with his energy and a smile that was both authentic and mischievous, but quintessentially Alex's. He had room for everyone, even when they gave him reason to doubt them, and he gave all of himself to every person who was lucky enough to have met him. He saw the best in everyone, and while his personality was big, it was never bigger than his heart.
His family recounted a story from when Alex was a young boy fishing. After reeling in a fish and admiring his catch, he had trouble unhooking it. Instead of hurting the fish, he lowered it into the shallow water of the lake and silently cried. It was an early sign of his always gentle nature and his capacity to give all of himself to everyone, especially to those who needed his help the most.
A close friend of Alex's in Pennsylvania recently said "Alex taught me how to laugh and to have fun and love again. I wouldn't be where I am without him." Alex will be greatly missed for his humor and his dedication to his friends and his family.
The family will be receiving friends and visitors from 5:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, December 1st, 2015 at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, located at 401 Broadway in Monticello, NY.
