Amanda Ilstad Langseder, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2015 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 96. The daughter of the late Ingvald and Amanda Ilstad, she was born February 15, 1919 in Jersey City NJ. Amanda and her husband Jack, who was the love of her life, enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing in 2003. Amanda and Jack had been acquainted since her early childhood, since both mothers had emigrated from Finland together and were best friends. From an early age, Amanda spent her summers with the Langseder Family at Yankee Lake. The two were married in October 1940 and raised their two sons, Richard and John, in Brooklyn. Once their sons were on their own, Amanda and Jack moved permanently to Middletown, NY (winters) and Yankee Lake (summers). Amanda was very proud that she worked for non profit organizations throughout her working career. She worked as an Administrative Assistant first at the National Headquarters of the American Baptist Convention, then at the Headquarters for the Salvation Army and finally for many years at the National Headquarters of the YMCA, all located in Manhattan. Amanda and Jack were active members in the Westbrookville Senior Club, the Middletown Senior Club and St. Paul's Methodist Church in Middletown. Amanda is survived by her loving son, Richard and his wife Linda of Yankee Lake and Hockessin, DE; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara of Yankee Lake. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack; her younger son, John; as well as her great-grandson, Jack. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Steven (Meghan), David (Beth), Jennie (Ric) and Amanda (Rodney); and 10 great-grandchildren Katherine, Grace, Mary, Nate, Julia, Anna, Polly, Finn, Aden and Desmond. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, November 14 from 12-3pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 3pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Westbrookville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jack Langseder 4evRStrong Foundation for Pediatric Cancer Research c/o The Delaware Community Foundation, 100 W. 10th Street, Suite 115, Wilmington, DE 19899-1636.
