Obituary of Rev. Robert P. Meyer

Rev Robert Patrick Meyer entered into eternal life with the Lord on Friday, September 18, 2015. He was 71 years of age. Robert was born to Alwena (Chambers) and Clarence Meyer on March 17, 1944 in Jersey City, NJ. He was wed to Lois Elaine Vander Ploeg on October 23, 1976. Robert was the devoted pastor of the Community Church of Wurtsboro. He served as the chair of many different committees, church organizations, and outreach programs. He graduated with his Masters in Divinity from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in May of 2008. He was a past deacon and elder and a member of The Reformed Church of America since 1980. Robert was a caring and compassionate man, a man whose soul burned for the Lord. He was an inspiration to those around him and will be greatly missed. He is survived by three beloved children; Carrie Meyer and her fiancée Richard Luongo of Montgomery, NY, John Van Erem and his wife Jennifer of Ellenville, NY, and Richard Van Erem and his fiancé Missy Morales of Newburgh, NY. He leaves six cherished grandchildren; Leah Nicole and Norah Layne Germano, Tyler Marsh, and Courtney, Richard, and Jared Van Erem; one sister, Marilyn Graessle and husband Bill of Toms River, NJ, and brothers Edward Meyer and wife Pat of Ocala, FL, Ronald Meyer and wife Marge of Billings, MT, and Fred Schmidt and wife Joyce of Point Pleasant, NJ; and many nieces and nephews, along with many dear friends. Robert is predeceased by both of his parents, several brothers and sisters, and his beloved wife and soul mate Lois Elaine Meyer. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm at the Community Church of Wurtsboro, 134 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 24 at 11:00 am at the Community Church of Wurtsboro. Burial will follow at Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
