Obituary of Bernard Joseph O'Donohue

Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernard "Bernie" O'Donohue of Wurtsboro, New York, went home to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday June 7, 2015, while surrounded by his loving wife and family. Bernie was the second of three sons born to the late Bernard O'Donohue from County Cavan Ireland, and His beloved mother Hannah (Shannahan) O'Donohue from County Kerry Ireland. Bernie joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served the Country that he loved. After leaving his military service, he worked for many years as a Master Licensed Plumbing & Heating Contractor in New York City before moving his family to Wurtsboro, New York where he started "Bernie O'Donohue Plumbing & Heating". There is no way to capture the essence of who Bernie was as a man in simple words, but he was a tremendously generous man who always had a heart for the less fortunate. He often donated his money, time and skills to be of help to those in need. He was the hardest working man we ever knew and regardless of how tired he was at the end of any given work day, he would faithfully strap his work boots on the following morning and attend to supplying the needs of his family. His life was one of sacrifice for those he loved. He never counted the cost to himself and simply did what good men do. Love those he loved with everything he had to give. This family will never be the same without him here with us, but we rejoice in faith that he is finally at rest in the presence of his parents whom he loved and missed so much, and most importantly, his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. This family knows that we shall all be together again one day. Those who love him will continue to honor him by walking in faith and love. He will forever live in our hearts and never be forgotten. He leaves behind his loving wife, children, daughters-in law, grandchildren, great-grandchild, brothers, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and his dearest friends. One of Bernie's favorite verses of scripture was: "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his soul?" (Mark 8:36 KJV). Bernie lived his life in simplicity, humility, sacrifice for others, and reverence for God. He was a man's man who was the perfect blend of steal and velvet. The hardest working and hardest loving man we ever knew. "His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (Matt 25:21 KJV). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 9 from 6-9pm at the VanInwegen- Kenny Funeral Inc.
