Gyula "Jules" Fodor of Rock Hill, a retired matre d' for the Concord Resort Hotel, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in Liberty. He was 77. The son of the late Gyula Fodor and Terezia Csiszr Fodor, he was born March 17, 1936 in Agyagosszergeny, Hungary. Gyula fled his native Hungary during the revolution of the Russian occupation of Hungary in 1956. He settled and worked in New York City. Eventually split his year working at the Brickman in Palm Beach Fl, and the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz NY where he met his wife Joyce. Finally settling in Rock Hill NY, and working his way from busboy to Matre' d/ Executive department head of the night clubs, lounges and beverage services at the Concord Resort Hotel in Kiamesha Lake NY until its closing 35 years later. He also helped with the opening of the Concord St Martin in the Caribbean. Gyula was a school teacher in Hungary, he also coached and played European soccer. He enjoyed playing chess, cards, and eating ice cream. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his grandchildren whom he loved and adored. Gyula was always eager to help anyone that needed it and was always willing to tell a good joke to anyone who would listen. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts!!! He is survived by his wife: Joyce Wagner Fodor, at home; three sons: Guy M. Fodor & his wife Terry of Voluntown, CT, Glenn M. Fodor & his wife Mary of Rock Hill, and Mitchell A. Fodor & his wife Sandra of Glen Wild; nine grandchildren: Shane, Shannon, Stefan, Jonathan, Rachel, Sean, Matthew, Carrie and George; one great grandson: Jack; three brothers: Imre Fodor & his wife Mria, Alajos Fodor and his wife Zsuzsanna, and Gza Fodor and his wife Anna, all of Hungary; and several nieces and nephews. Family & friends are invited to gather on Saturday, March 23 from 4-8pm with a wake service at 7pm by Fr. Ivan Csete at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 24 at 2:00pm at the Rock Hill Church of the Nazarene, Katrina Falls Road in Rock Hill with Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Rock Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 1, Rock Hill, NY 12775 or the Rock Hill Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.
