Murray "Mutt" Solomon, 84, of Endicott and Monticello, passed away Thursday January 15, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton after an extended illness. The son of the late Frank and Jennie Solomon, he was born February 17, 1930 in Monticello. After graduating from Monticello High School in 1948, Mutt served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, where he retired as a Sgt 1st Class after 22 years of service. He also was a retired manager from Shortline/Coach USA and was a member of the Monticello Fire Department for 65 years. Murray's family would like to thank the staffs of Emeritus Woodland Place, Vestal, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and especially Good Shepherd Village at Endwell, for the care and attention shown him during his stays there. He is survived by his loving and caring niece, Franci Solomon-Kirtack (Paul), and niece Carol Furchak and her children: Jennifer Shamah (Al) and Jason Furchak (January), and their children: Sarah, David, Jorja and Jenna; a sister-in-law, Helen Bates Solomon Fero (Daniel); as well as many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Yaeko in 2010; two brothers, "Whitey" and Jake Solomon; a sister, Pauline Furchak (Edward Sr.); and two nephews, Edward Furchak Jr. and Scott Solomon. Family & friends are invited to gather on Sunday, May 3 from 1-4pm at the Monticello Fire House, 23 Richardson Avenue, Monticello, NY. At Mutt's request there will be no formal service, only a gathering. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Monticello Fire Department.
