Obituary of James E. Dunn

Jimmy, eldest son of the late James R. and Joan L. Dunn of Wurtsboro, entered into eternal rest on March 19, 2015. He was 61 years of age. After graduating from Monticello High School, he went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Maritime College. In 1981, he became an officer with the NYS Department of Corrections, promoted to sergeant, and retired after 28 years of service. Jimmy was a well-respected lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was an active member of the Wurtsboro Fire Department for over 40 years. After joining the department in 1974, he was awarded "Fireman of the Year" in 1976, was elected Chief in 1981, and served as Treasurer for 30 years. He was an active member of the Monticello Elks Lodge. As a spiritual and humble man, he will be remembered for his honesty, reliability, and for his caring and giving nature in helping the less fortunate. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Mada; sons Michael and Christopher; brothers Gary, Bobby, and Richie; and sisters-in-law Wendy and Dawn. Other family members include an Aunt, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by many friends, colleagues, and associates. In adherence with his wishes, graveside services will be held at the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery on Tuesday, March24th at 2:00pm.
