Obituary of Raymond W. Dunn Sr.

Raymond W. Dunn Sr., a former resident of Wurtsboro, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 15, 2015 in Ormond Beach, FL. He was 89. The son of the late Floyd Dunn and Maude Sarine Dunn, he was born November 10, 1925 in Wurtsboro. Before moving to Florida, Ray was involved in many area civic and fraternal organizations over his long life, including the Wurtsboro Fire Dept., Lions Club, Boy Scouts, and Moose Lodge. A former Sullivan County Sheriff, he was also a Republican Town Committeeman serving as Chairman for many years; a former Highway Superintendent for the Town of Mamakating; deputy clerk to the NYS Assembly; served on the Board of Sullivan ARC; was President of the Sylvan Cemetery Association for 39 years; and was a Deacon and Elder of the Community Church of Wurtsboro. Ray and his wife Carol, who survives, moved to Ormond Beach in 2004, where Ray volunteered at the Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center for over eight years, meeting with and helping countless people with his unique personality. He was awarded his 4,000-hour pin just prior to his passing. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, February 19 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20 at 11am at the Community Church of Wurtsboro, 134 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Rev.
