Obituary of Daniel J. Thomas

Daniel J. Thomas, a former owner of Danny's Village Inn in Wurtsboro, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at his home in Wurtsboro. He was 86. The son of the late Marie and Jacob Thomas, Danny was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on August 17, 1928. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a survivor of Iwo Jima. His story can be found at www.recordonline.com/article/20040531/News/305319999. He was a 1951 graduate of Indiana University and was employed as a Special Agent of the FBI from 1952 to 1961. He was also a member of the Mamakating VFW, a 50-year member of the Mamakating American Legion, a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wurtsboro, the Knights of Columbus Council #14560, Mamakating Seniors, Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI and was a former Councilman for the Town of Mamakating. He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Joan Halloran Thomas, at home; nieces and nephews including Vincent Rampe, Chris Rampe, Kathy Motl & her husband JT, and Eleanor Pannenbacker & her husband Roy, and many other loving nieces, nephews and in-laws. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two sisters: Delphine Capaldi and Genevieve Wojciechowski. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, December 28 from 4-8pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 29 at 11am at St. Joseph's Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
