Obituary of Joan K. Ball

Joan passed away peacefully at home. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harry Edward Ball and her 4 children, daughter Barbara; sons Jim & his wife Susan, Tom & his wife Chris, and Rick & his wife Laura; grandchildren Dawn & her husband Todd, David & his wife Stefanie, Kristin & her husband Gary, Michael & his fiancée Ilsa, Jaclyn & her husband Seth, Katy and Brian; great grandchildren Skyler, Mia, Marissa, Brendan, Leilani and Kian. Joan spent her life volunteering. She was an active member of the United Church of Spring Valley where she sang in the Choir for 50 years. PTA was her calling, for 30 years she was active at the local and State levels, rising to State Legislation Chairman and then President of the New York State PTA. She worked tirelessly to have the NYS Legislature pass the Youth Camp Safety Act, the ban on corporal punishment in public schools and improvements to school buses to protect the children in an accident. Her influence for the safety of children of New York State will survive her for generations. But perhaps she was most famous for her endless array of homemade cookies that she brought everywhere and gave away by the thousands at Christmas to all who were lucky enough to be on the list. She will be missed. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family. A Memorial service will be held at the Community Church of Wurtsboro on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11am.
