Doris Caroline Galvin's life of service and dedication to others ended on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. She died peacefully at St. Josephs Place Nursing Home in Port Jervis, New York. She was 89 years old. She bravely faced the many trials in her life with dignity, respect, prayer and love. Doris was born in the Bronx, New York on May 25, 1925. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Anna Muller; two sisters, Florence Elliott Wheatly and Eleanor Doyle; and brother Charles Muller. She is survived by Raymond Galvin, her loving husband of 69 years; her daughter Barbara and husband David Vazquez of Wurtsboro, New York; her daughter Patricia and husband George Angelinovich of Millsboro, Delaware; her grandson Louis Franzetti and his wife Amie of Indianapolis, Indiana; her grandson Paul Franzetti and his wife Tara of Richmond, Virginia and her two grandchildren Lauren and Nicholas Franzetti of Indianapolis, Indiana; her beloved nephews; and extended family members. Doris was the glue that held her family together. Doris worked for the original Ma Bell for many years and received several awards for "Miss Voice and Courtesy". She was a financial analyst for the Equitable Life Assurance Company for 25 years. After her retirement from Equitable, she worked for Midlantic Bank. She was an officer for the Bergen County Youth Bowling League and the Stan Niemiec Traveling League for 25 years and raised thousands of dollars for youth scholarships to college. Doris was a member of the Mamakating Seniors Club and St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Wurtsboro, N.Y. She had served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Columbus and as treasurer of their bowling league. Doris was an avid reader, bowler and loved to play the slots and card games. The family would like to extend their profound gratitude to the staff of St. Josephs Place in Port Jervis, New York for making Doris' final years as comfortable as possible. Friends are invited to visit on Sunday, September 21st from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Monday, September 22nd from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's RC Church, 180 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro, New York. Burial will be private, at a later date.
