Obituary of Marie D. Quetel

Marie Quetel passed into her eternal life the way she lived her earthly life, gracefully. She was at peace in the company of her son and daughter and son in law, in the comfort of her daughter and son in law's home and embraced by the love of her family near and far. Marie was born in Asbury Park, NJ to Eugene and Frances Siciliano on July 18, 1925. She and her husband Andre Quetel, Sr. settled in Westchester County, NY where they raised their two children. Following her retirement in 1992, Marie moved to Sullivan County to be closer to her family and settled in Ferndale, NY. She became a volunteer at the former Community General Hospital's Outpatient Oncology Center. Shortly after, she became an employee and worked for more than ten years in the Outpatient Oncology Center. When CGH reorganized and became Catskill Regional Medical Center, she resumed her role as a dedicated volunteer in the CRMC's Cancer Care and Outpatient Infusion Center. She has been recognized by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program for Significant Service to the Community for over 1,000 hours in a given year more than once. Marie was also an oncology patient at CRMC's Cancer Care Center and she was featured on a local billboard and in a TV commercial! Marie and the nurses and staff in the Cancer Care Center considered each other extended family. Marie was a faithful communicant at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Monticello, NY where she had been active in the parish community. She was one of the very first members of the St. Peter's Building Fund Committee whose tireless efforts led to the construction of the new St. Peter's Parish Center. Marie is survived by her beloved son and daughter, Andre Quetel, Jr. of Lincoln, VT and Lynn Fogarty (Thomas) of Monticello, NY. Marie cherished her grandchildren Travis and Audrey (Timothy) and Sean (Madison) and Ryan. They gave her such joy and she was very proud of them. They were always a part of each other's lives and shared their love for each other whether they were near or far. Marie is also survived by her very dear sister, Barbara McMahon, of Pompano Beach, FL. She was Earth Angel Aunt Marie to her loving niece, Claudia, and to her nephews, John, Michael and Robert who also survive her. She was predeceased by her mother and father and her husband, her youngest brother Eugene and very recently, by her dearly loved brother, Joseph Siciliano. A family statement reads: "Our Mom….. Our Grandma….. Our Nanie….. was very devoted to us and she was looking forward to being a devoted Great Grandma. We loved and appreciated her very much. She was a sweet little lady and she led a good life. We will miss having her with us on earth but she will always be with us in our hearts and in our memories. She was loved, respected and admired by us, everyone in our family, and by those whose lives she touched in many different ways. We will always remember her with her warm smile and big, bright eyes, her gentle laughter, her considerate, kind and caring ways, her willingness to be there to help, her knowledge and wisdom, her motivation and commitment, her independence, strength and her courage." Marie had many close friends throughout the years and she enjoyed special friendships that she developed more recently. She will be missed but remembered by these friends. In her leisure time Marie loved to cook, sew and bake. "Back in the day" Marie was a second mother to many young folks and was always delighted, with smiles and laughter, to prepare and serve great big meals for her son and his friends on a moment's notice, day or night. She was a very talented seamstress throughout her life and among her beautiful works of art, her pillows and quilts will be cherished in her family for generations to come. She had a giant "green thumb" and enjoyed outdoor gardening as well as caring for her indoor plants especially her special Christmas cactus. Her family would like to express their appreciation to her wonderful team of doctors and their staff and to Nate and Peter at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Monticello. They are particularly grateful to Dr. Sheldon Leidner for his many, many years of very attentive and very sensitive medical care and unwavering support and to Dr. Juan Goyzueta and his nurse, Penny, for their years of diligent and respectful medical treatment and encouragement and to Dr. Gnanamba Kondagunta, the nurses and staff at CRMC's Cancer Care and Outpatient Infusion Center for their loving attention and compassionate care. They thank Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc. who provided their care most recently. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 4th at 10am at St. Peter's RC Church, Broadway, Monticello, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marie's name to St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Monticello, NY or to the CRMC Cancer Care Center's Medication Fund or to Marie's favorite charity, Food for the Poor. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com
