Ignacio Ortega of Monticello, a retired dental technician, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in Liberty. He was 94. The son of the late Ignacio Ortega and Fernada Martinez, he was born April 20, 1918 in Ciales, Puerto Rico. A member of the greatest generation, Mr. Ortega was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years: Aracelis Colon, at home; two sons: Reuben Ortega of Paterson, NJ and Roque Ortega of Monticello; a daughter: Myrna Colon of Newburgh; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 2 at 10am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. John Tran officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Sullivan Co. Veterans Cemetery in Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a local veterans charity of one's choice.
