Obituary of Marie Ann Schoonmaker

Marie Ann Schoonmaker "Mom" a longtime resident of Westbrookville, NY passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, Thursday, May 17, 2012. She was 59. The daughter of Joan Romer Bakewell, she was born December 15, 1952 in Ellenville, NY. Mom worked as a bus monitor for the Port Jervis Central School District. Marie was married to Edward Schoonmaker Sr. and they enjoyed 41 years together. Besides Edward and her loving family Marie loved many things, including the outdoors, Elvis and of course animals. In addition to her loving husband Edward Schoonmaker Sr. at home, and her mother Joan Romer Bakewell (Jeff) of New Hampton, she is survived by her two daughters: Kristina M. Mercilliot (Matthew) of Nineveh, NY and Loni Rae Heichel (Jason) of Nanticoke, PA; her two sons: Edward R. Schoonmaker Sr. (Maryellen) of Highland Lake, NY and Jeffery J. Schoonmaker of Westbrookville, NY; four brothers: George Romer of Westtown, NY, Ronald Romer (Karen) of Elizabeth Town, PA, Michael Romer of Liberty, NY, and Mark Romer of Callicoon, NY; three sisters: Joann Cottrill (Fred) of Buckhannon, WV, Janet Cuttler (Randy) of Westtown, NY and Tanya Schoonmaker of Goshen, NY; nine grandchildren: Kevin Ventrice, Edward Schoonmaker III, Troy, Paul, Kassie and Robert Mercilliot, Audrey, Alexavier and Abbigail Heichel; one great-grandchild, Emma Elizabeth; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Roger Romer; a sister, Georganna Romer and a grandson, Andrew Heichel. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 2-5pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral service will be held at 4:30pm Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Rev. Ron Leigh will officiate.
