Obituary of Frank J. Labuda

Frank John Labuda Sr., a retired transit worker for the New York City Transit Authority, and a skilled woodworker and mason who built his family home in Wurtsboro, died Friday, February 8, 2013 at his home in Wurtsboro. He was 87. The son of the late Paul and Barbara Labuda, who were born in the region formerly known as Czechoslovakia and immigrated to the United States before the Great Depression, he was born May 24, 1925 in the Bronx. He was the widower of Mary Susan Labuda who predeceased him in 1988. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines, Frank was a member of the Mamakating American Legion Post #1266 and a supporter of the Mamakating Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4947. He was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wurtsboro where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by two sons: Frank J. LaBuda & his wife Kathleen of Wurtsboro, and Peter Labuda of Wurtsboro; his grandchildren: Adam, Kurt, Marc, Lucas, Anastasia and Erika; four great grandchildren: Gisella, Jaylin, Joshias and Pace Linden; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a granddaughter: Elisabeth; two brothers: Paul and Joseph; and a sister: Ann. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, February 10 from 2-6pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 11 at 11am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Interment of his ashes will be held privately at the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cardinal's Appeal c/o St. Joseph's Church, or the American Legion Post #1266, P.O.
