Obituary of Eula P. Marcial

Eula P. Marcial was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana to the late Roscoe Peters and Hjalmar "Mama Jama" Sutton. Eula came to Monticello in the late 1930's during the great migration from the South. She was to become a pioneer in a time where African-Americans, especially black women, were afforded few opportunities. She was a property owner in both the Towns of Thompson and Fallsburg, respectively. She was also an original member of the Bethlehem Temple Church where she taught Sunday School and was a missionary. In later years, Eula was a caregiver for the state of New York providing a home and loving care to six mentally disadvantaged women from the mid 1970's to the later 1990's upon her retirement. Eula, or "Mama Eula" as she was affectionately known, leaves behind her husband of 26 years: Ramon Marcial of South Fallsburg; two sisters: Helena Teasley and Geraldine Smith; and one brother: Arronda Sutton, all of Monticello. She also leaves behind her only son: Eric Young Jr. & his wife Ann of Monticello; seven grandsons: Darren Young of Mt. Vernon, Elgin Young of Middletown, Eric Young III of Uplamo, CA, Ephfrim Young of Duarte, CA, and Derik, Elliot and Ebon Young, all of Monticello; sixteen great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, saints and friends. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 12:00 noon at the Bethlehem Temple Church, Fairground Road in Monticello with Bishop Mervin Armstead officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday from 10am until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
