Violet Dora Vasquez, a homemaker and former resident of Staten Island, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at her home in Wurtsboro surrounded by her family. She was 78. The daughter of the late Mark Butler and Phoebe Coles Butler, she was born August 28, 1933 in Newfoundland, Canada. Violet was a member of the Community Church of Wurtsboro and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Beacon Light Chapter in Staten Island. An avid gardener, Violet also loved the outdoors and working with children. A nature lover, Vi loved all animals especially her pets. She is survived by her husband of 52 years: Charles Vasquez, at home; two sons: Chuck Vasquez & his partner Paul Mast of Waldwick, NJ, and Mark Vasquez & his wife Linda of Howell, NJ; three grandsons: William, Matthew and Michael Vasquez; several brothers and sisters including Joan Fowler of Newfoundland; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, January 31 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 1 at 11:00am at the Community Church of Wurtsboro, 134 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Rev. Robert Meyer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Community Church of Wurtsboro, P.O. Box 487, Wurtsboro, NY 12790. Arrangements under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc.
