Obituary of John J. Davidson
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Joseph ('Jack') Davidson, 85, died on February 1, 2013 after a long illness. Jack was born and raised in Airmont, New York and owned Jack's Service Station on Route 59 in Suffern for more than 40 years. In World War II, and again during the Korean War, he served in the US Navy. He married his high school sweetheart, Lorna Shenise, in 1948; they were married for 52 years and had six children together.
Jack was a member of VFW Post 2973 and served as Commander for many years. He retired in 1985 and moved to Wolf Lake in Wurtsboro, New York where he became an active member, and later president, of the Mamakating Seniors. In 2001 he was named Senior of the Year. Jack also served on the Advisory Committee to Sullivan County's Office for the Aging. For many years he helped organize the Senior Olympics Games in Monticello. He also volunteered through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at the Chase School in Wurtsboro. While living on Wolf Lake, Jack sat on the Board of Directors for many years and in his spare time could be seen out on the lake fishing.
John Davidson is survived by his long-time friend and companion Norma Cleator; his five children: Barbara Hartt of Lady Lake, Florida, Jackie Davidson of Tucson, Arizona, Larry Davidson of Suffern, New York, Patty Owens of Berwick, Pennsylvania and MaryAnn Napolitano of Kissimmee, Florida and son-in-law Ralph Napolitano. He will be missed by his seven grandchildren, Daniel, Chad and Kara Owens and Katie, Allison, Sarah and Nicholas Napolitano; his sisters, Florence Meres of Ormond Beach, Florida and Nancy Mays of Watervliet, New York; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna and son Michael.
