I just found out. My heartfelt condolences. Rob was my ski coach at Vermont Academy and I always considered him a mentor and friend. Great skier a great man. I have not seen him in many years but always remember him well. If this note finds his family I hope it finds them all well and happy. I know he died five years ago I just thought I would leave a note. May he rest in peace and live forever in the hearts of those who love him.

To The VanEtten Family, I grew up in Monticello and went to school with Rob. I have great memories of the ski hill and watching the ski races at Holiday Mtn., soccer matches, science labs, parties with all our friends, and BBQ's at your house! I am shocked and so saddened for your tragic loss and unimaginable grief. I hope you find comfort in everyone's love, support and prayers. My deepest sympathy to all

My deepest sympathies to all of your family on this unspeakable loss. From what I have read Rob captured all of the wonderful traits that are apparent in his parents and siblings and I have no doubt they have been handed down to the next generation and his spirit will live on through all of them.

I'm a current neighbor of Jody's at Wanaksink, but have fond memories of the summers that I worked with Rob and the Monticello gang at US Grounds in the late 70s. We water skied, played tennis and partied together...but Rob's end of workday antics on the diving board and pool where I was a lifeguard were the height of entertainment! It didn't get more "cool" than Rob. For his shortened life, it seems he lived it well.

My deepest sympathies for your sudden and tragic loss. I've known Rob only fairly recently and somewhat in passing, but in every encounter he impressed me as a man of character, capability, intelligence, and heart. Such a person will be so badly needed, and so deeply missed. May the memories of his goodness and love help sustain you in an unimaginably difficult time.

The reason I am writing this is because yesterday I saw the obituary for Robert Arthur in the Times Herald Record. I did not know the decease however I was extremely moved by this. My name is Robert Vincent Van Etten and my wife is Patricia Harris Van Etten the same first names as the deceased parents. We also had a son Robert Jr. who was born in 1958 however died shortly after birth. My condolences
to Ann and her family. The older I get the more and more Van Etten's I come in contact with. I was born and raised in Kingston, NY and presently live with Patricia in Connelly, NY.

To all of the Van Etten family members and especially Rob's family my sincere condolences and heartfelt prays. I am an old Monticello school friend who shared many memories with Rob whether it was skiing, soccer or mowing countless lawns for LLM Landscaping.
As I reminisce I realize how Rob was truly a wonderful person. He was the nicest personality, wonderful to be with, funny, amazing at everything he did and he could get everyone jealous when he sang "Run Around Sue" on the ski bus.
From what I have read he continued his wonderful life as an adult. The world lost a great person.
Peace to all!

I was a fraternity brother of Rob's at St. Lawrence. While we have been out of touch since graduation, I remember him well as a great skier and soccer player. He could do Mick Jagger better a party than Mick Jagger could have done himself and he was always a lot of fun to be with. He and his family have been in my prayers since the accident. I am so sorry that the injuries sustained in the accident were, in the end, too great for him to overcome. He will be remembered fondly by all of us. I will not be able to attend the memorial service but I send my very best to family.
