Dennis M. Smith, a registered nurse with the NYS Department of Corrections in Otisville, died Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at his home in Monticello surrounded by his family. He was 60. The son of the late Elaine Barker Smith, he was born August 26, 1951 in Longview, WA and raised in San Francisco, CA. Dennis enjoyed playing chess, golf, tennis, and watching movies with his friends and family during his free time. A veteran of the US Army and a winner of several civic achievement awards during his lifetime, he will be remembered for helping his community. Dennis is survived by his wife of 34 years: Barbara A. Garrison Smith, at home; a son: Shaun M. Smith of New York City; a daughter: Jennifer Smith Swift & her husband Jared Swift of Rock Hill; and a grandchild: Charlotte Grace Swift. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother James Smith. Family & friends are invited to gather on Saturday, October 8 from 12:00 - 2:30pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr.
