It is with profound sadness that I write this note to you, Marie, and your family. John was a long-time friend and his willingness to be helpful in any kind of a situation was a major mark of his personality. Both you and John stood with me when I lost my 2 husbands, and now I stand with you in your time of sorrow. Please be comforted by knowing I hold you all in my prayers. With deepest sympathies, Eileen

Joe and Family, please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Having just gone through this with my Dad, I know the range of feelings you are all dealing with, but I'm sure the memories of all the great times will help you get through this. My deepest sympathies.

John was a dedicated man who proudly served his community and will be sadly missed. John was an inspiration to us all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the members of the Wurtsboro Fire Department. May our brother firefighter rest in peace.

Vivian Piper posted a condolence
Mr. Bryan loomed large in my childhood days: he was the genial father of my friends, Ann, Barbara, Johnny and Joey - many hours spent in their company included him. We attended the same church and I can picture him at the barbecue pit in the days of the church chicken barbecues. He was the husband of Marie, one of my mentors on the volunteer ambulance squad. But mostly to me he will always be equated with the Wurtsboro Fire Department, standing shoulder to shoulder with my dad, Mike Diamond, Eddie Wilkinson, Frankie Roosa, Tony Fello, Bob Olcott and others of the "old days."
Rest in peace, Mr. Bryan. You will not be forgotten.
