Obituary of Matilda Jackson

Matilda "Tilly" Jackson, a long time resident of Monticello, NY, went home to be with our Lord and Savoir on Saturday, July 23, 2011. She passed away peacefully at home. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Robert Jackson . She was 75 years old. She devoted her life to her children, her community, and her church. She loved her family with all her heart. She was a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, and a source of support for each and everyone. She was the "Mother" of First Baptist Church, a member of the Eastern Star, and known to everyone as the "Hat Lady" for the elegant and stylish hats she worn. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her ten children: ST. Julian Washington and his wife, Dianne of Columbia, SC, Deloris Johnson and her husband, James of New Rochelle, NY, Denise Campbell of Poughkeepsie, NY, Sheila Jackson Smith and husband, Maurice Smith of Monticello, NY, Sharon Jackson, Steven Jackson and his wife, Renee of Monticello, NY, Laurie Ann, Belinda Raymos, Christina Jones, Zena Mizell, Arnold Mizell and Robert Jackson Jr.; 20 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Robert Washington of Pemperton, NJ, and a great number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, Visitation will be held from 4-6:30pm Friday, July 29, 2011 at VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Her funeral service will take place at 11am on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, 28 Liberty Street, Monticello, NY. Burial will follow at the Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello, NY.
