Obituary of John Patrick Sullivan
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John P. "Sully" Sullivan Jr. of Spring Hill, FL and formerly of Wurtsboro, NY and Ellenville, NY died on July 13, 2011 at home after a courageous battle with cancer with his wife by his side. He was 58.
John was born December 10, 1952 to Alice (Testino) and John P. Sullivan, Sr. in Staten Island, NY. John was a loving husband and father and was loved very much by his family and friends. He was a past member of the Merchant Marines and was retired from the Town of Wallkill Highway Department. John was a car enthusiast and loved going to NASCAR races, especially the Daytona 500, which he did every year for many years. He also loved working on classic cars, going to car shows, talking about cars, and he especially loved driving back and forth between New York and Florida. He was an avid NY Giants and NY Mets fan and used to love going to Giants games with his father-in-law, Gerard. He loved being around his family and friends, most of all. He was a great story teller and loved making people laugh. Even when the disease starting taking over, his humor was infinite. The end of his days were spent with the people he loved the most-including his family, Marie and Bob; Donna and George; niece Amanda, and he was especially grateful to his longtime best friends, Steve Russo and Joe Pistoia, who went above and beyond to help John and Beth during their darkest days. You will forever be in our hearts.
John was predeceased by his parents, Alice and John Sullivan Sr., his brother Samuel DeFazio, his sister Roseanne Stetter, his father-in-law Gerard Valles and his brother-in-law Robert P. Valles.
He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth, at home; his daughter Jeanette King-Smith (whom he was very proud of), of Wurtsboro, NY; his new son-in-law, Jeffrey Smith, whom he was happy to welcome into the family. He is also survived by his brothers, George (Karen) Sullivan of Staten Island, NY; Patrick Sullivan of Massachusetts; his sister Marie Whitney and her partner Robert (Bobby) Beadling of Florida; sister Donna (George) Tomlinson of Florida; sister Edith (Eddie) Pittman of Chester, NY; sister Anita Butler of Georgia; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Valles of Cornwall, NY; in laws Barbara & Kevin Twomey of New Windsor, NY; Jerry & Nancy Valles of Staten Island, NY and many, many nieces and nephews and one Godson, Christopher Valles of Staten Island, NY.
Memorial donations may be made to: HPH Hospice Foundation 12107 Majestic Blvd. Hudson, Florida 34667-2455.
A special thank you to all of John's hundreds of friends who would call and reach out regularly. His friendships and love is what helped keep him going.
