Obituary of Albert F. Picarello

Albert F. "Bert" Picarello of Monticello died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 91.
The son of the late Joseph Picarello and Margaret Bernardo Picarello, he was born March 4, 1920 in Brooklyn.
Bert was a Navy veteran from World War II. He was a Navy Diver who served in the European theatre of Operation and then in the Pacific theatre of Operation. He was one of the first Americans to enter Japan and finished his tour of duty there. Bert was also a purple heart recipient. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a butcher and looked forward to deer season where he spent long hours processing deer. He also was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Sheep Hill Hunting Club.
All of the kids loved Bert as he spent many carefree days sharing his favorite pastimes of hunting, fishing, berry picking, watching eagles and rafting on the Delaware with them.
He is survived by his wife: Alice Verlini Picarello at home; a son: John A. Picarello of Monticello; a granddaughter: Angela Volk & her husband Neil; his great grandchildren: Natalya and Reid; daughter-in-law: Suzanne Lindsay Picarello, all of San Diego, CA; a nephew: John J. Picarello & his wife Susan and their sons Mark, Joshua & Johnny of Monticello; brothers: Joseph Picarello of Stony Point, Frank Picarello & his wife Sabina of Garnerville; and a sister: Lucy McGrady & her husband Robert of Bridgeville, DE; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son: Albert F. "Biff" Picarello Jr.; brothers: John, Anthony & Nicholas Picarello; sisters: Annie Hudson, Margaret Crosby, Carmalina Fargardo, all of Rockland County.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Forestburgh, followed by burial with military honors at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
