Obituary of Elsie M. McKenney
Please share a memory of Elsie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elsie Mae Beadle McKenney of Summitville died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at ORMC - Arden Hill Campus in Goshen. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Floyd Sidney Beadle and Anna Mabel Ireland Beadle, she was born June 2, 1925 in Hancock. She was the widow of Donald L. McKenney who predeceased her on October 31, 2010.
Elsie retired as an executive secretary for the Sullivan County Probation Dept. and was also a secretary at Rose & Douglas in Ellenville. She was a member of the Summitville Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, Mamakating VFW Post #4947 Ladies Auxiliary, Mamakating American Legion Post #1266 Auxiliary, Mamakating Seniors and the Wanaksink Lake Club.
Elsie was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She greatly enjoyed her many years of retirement with her friends, spending winters in Florida, card games, bingo, and the many activities in the clubs she belonged to. The greatest joy of her life came from spending time with her grandchildren. Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of Elsie's friends for the kindness, compassion and help they have given to our family. Elsie devoted countless hours to her community through the many organizations she was involved in and had a wonderful time doing this.
She is survived by her children: Glen McKenney of Hyde Park, James McKenney & his wife Ann of Columbia, SC, and Mary Quick and her husband Dan of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren: Joshua, Casey, Susan, Erin and Kaylene; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers: George Beadle, Francis Beadle and Floyd Junior Beadle.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18 from 5-8pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 19 at 10:00am at the funeral home with Pastor Camille Regholec officiating. Burial will follow in the Poplar Grove Cemetery in Phillipsport.
