Obituary of Paul David Trust

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul Trust was born on April 5th, 1957 in Brooklyn, NY, the fourth of six children of the late Seymour and Janet Trust. The Trust family moved to Monticello in 1960 and Paul remained a Sullivan County resident until his unexpected death on November 17th. While attending Monticello High School, Paul played football in the Town of Bethel Youth League. Paul enjoyed winning at backgammon, bowling, chess and poker. Paul loved music and dancing, and spent several years working as a disco DJ in various locations, including many legendary Catskill locations. Paul became a devoted public servant, working in law enforcement for 20 years and proudly wore his Sullivan County Sheriff's Department badge. At his untimely passing, he was the Chief of the Civil Division. Active in the New York State Sheriff's Association, Paul was called upon to provide education to new Civil Division employees throughout the state. In addition, he was part of the Association's team compiled to audit Civil Divisions statewide to align them for accreditation. Paul was a kind and generous spirit, volunteering much of his time for numerous civic and charitable organizations, including the Landfield Avenue Synagogue, Rural Sullivan Housing Corporation and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Monticello Lodge 1544, where he was a Loyal Knight. Over fourteen years as an Elk, he spent countless hours working on children's programs, running Bingo, and raising money to help others less fortunate. He was most noted for his unyielding effort to ensure needy children received a gift to make their Christmas special. If an organization was hosting a party that included gifts for children, Paul was the go to person to provide the gifts; he was The Jewish Santa Claus. Above all else, Paul was a dedicated and devoted father, husband, grandfather, brother and uncle. Paul is survived by his loving wife Shari, his four daughters: Sarajean, Gina, Renae and Andrea; his two sons, Matthew and Joseph; five grandchildren: Jerimiah, Tyler, Emily, Ricky and Alejandro; his brothers Joe, Alan and Ben, and his sisters, Bonnie and Andrea, as well as several nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his infant daughter Tiffany. He will truly be missed. Donations may be made in his honor to the Monticello Elks Lodge. A celebration of Paul's life will take place at the Monticello Elks Lodge on Saturday from 4 PM to 8 PM. Services will be held Sunday, November 21st, 2010 at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home at 401 Broadway, Monticello, New York 12701. Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m, the ceremony will take place at 1 p.m.
