Obituary of Birdsall M. Roosa

Birdsall M. "Bert" Roosa of Monticello, a retired switchman for New York Telephone and lifelong resident of the area, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 88. The son of the late Harrison Roosa and Alice Olcott Roosa, he was born April 17, 1922 in Wurtsboro. Bert was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Italy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Posts in Mamakating as well as the Monticello Elk's Lodge #1544. He is survived by his wife of 35 years: Hazel Warren Roosa, at home; two daughters: Teresa Roosa and Mary Tolley, both of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren: Rosanne, Christopher, Amber, Andrew and Garrett; three great granddaughters; a brother: Frank Roosa of Wurtsboro; two sisters: Mardell Auer of Wurtsboro and Marie Woodruff of Ellenville; two stepsons: Steven and Warren; and several nieces and nephews. The Roosa family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Skilled Nursing Unit in Harris for the outstanding care given to Bert. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 17 from 4-7pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18 at 10:00am at the Community Church of Wurtsboro, 134 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Rev. Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
