Obituary of James P. Oefelein

James Peter Oefelein Sr., the former owner of the Starlight Marina on Swinging Bridge Lake, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at his home in Callicoon surrounded by his family. He was 73.
The son of the late James William Oefelein and Edna Andrews Oefelein, he was born April 7, 1937 in Manhattan. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was also a former member of Local 12 Union, Long Island City, NY.
Jim is survived by his wife: Christie Coopersmith Oefelein, at home; four sons: Patrick J. Oefelein & his wife Linda of Monticello, Michael G. Oefelein & his wife Mary of Irvine, CA, James P. Oefelein Jr. & his wife Theresa of Port Charlotte, FL, and William S. Oefelein of Monticello; a daughter: Linda Oefelein Geysen & her husband Dan of Unionville; 12 grandchildren: Melissa, Patrick, Erin, Kyle, Meagan, Stephanie, Allison, Mary, Scott, Katie, Luke and Brenden; three great grandchildren: Leland, Jayden and Chase; three sisters: Edna Parzygnat of Toms River, NJ, Joan Rivers of Barnegat Bay, NJ and Frances Drury of Flagstaff, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife: Mary Josephine Oefelein; a son: James William Oefelein; and three brothers: Harry, William and Richard Oefelein.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 30 from 6-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 1 at 11:00am at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Forestburgh with Fr. Ivan Csete officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 or to an animal rescue shelter of one's choice.
