Obituary of Joseph Levon Strong

Joseph Laverne Strong, 61 August 21, 1949-September 4, 2010 Of Monticello Joseph Laverne Strong, a bus driver with the Monticello School District, died, Saturday, September 4th, 2010, at the Catskill Regional Medical Center, he was 61. The son of Horace and Williemae Lymon Strong, Joseph was born in Fairhope, Alabama on August 21, 1949. Joseph was a graduate of the Monticello Central Schools in 1968. He was avid sportsman and especially enjoyed soccer, basketball, and track. Joseph entered the Army Reserves in 1975. He was avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking in his spare time. He was a special person who was loved by everyone. Joseph is survived by his two sons, Matthew Levon Strong, and Joseph Elijah Strong, of Monticello; three brothers, Matthew Strong, of California, Eddie Strong, of the Netherlands, and Anthony Thomas Williams, of Albany, NY; one sister, Lela Christine Strong Houston, of Plainsboro, NJ; two aunts, Dora and Ann Strong, of Philadelphia, PA; one uncle, Laverne Strong, of Arizona; one brother-in-law, Bishop Mervin Armstead, of Monticello; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 11, 2010, from 10:00am - 12:00pm, at the Bethlehem Temple Church, on Fairground Road in Monticello. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12:00pm, at the church, with Bishop Mervin Armstead officiating. Burial with military honors will be held immediately following the funeral service at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, in Liberty. Arrangements under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc.
