Alexander Maounis of Wurtsboro, a retired police officer for the NYPD, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his home in Inverness, Florida. He was 80. The son of the late Demetris Manos and Eftheia Bardis Manos, he was born April 19, 1932 in New York City. Alexander was a past president and treasurer of Mountain Lakes Camp Property Owner's Association and Pool Association. He is survived by his wife: Margaret "Peggy" Maounis, at home; three daughters: Janet Evans, Jean Maounis & her partner Tom Collich and Susan Johnson; seven grandchildren: Lauren Evans, Ryan Evans, Jesse Maounis Benning, Dana Evans Cardineau & her husband Brian, Kristen Johnson, Matthew Evans, and Andrew Johnson; and numerous cousins, nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three siblings: John Maounis, Mary Ferrante and Nicholas Maounis. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, January 6 from 2-6pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 7 at 11am at St. Joseph's Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wurtsboro. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph's Church, P.O. Box 277, Wurtsboro, NY 12790.
