Obituary
Obituary of Stephen P. Harrington
Please share a memory of Stephen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Stephen Patrick Harrington, a self-employed contractor and longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at his home in Wurtsboro after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 51.
The son of the late Francis Patrick Harrington and Catherine Mary Axtman Harrington, he was born April 27, 1959 in Great Falls, Montana.
A member of the Wurtsboro Fire Dept. and the Mamakating Moose Lodge, Steve was a man of his word and known for his big smile. His family would like everyone to remember him as the vibrant, overall wearing, hunk of a man who had John Deere running through his veins. Steve loved playing with his big toys and classic cars. The Andrew's farm in upstate Gouverneur, the place where his Vicki was raised, was one of Steve's favorite places. He loved the place so much that oftentimes he would take fragrant parts of the farm back to Wurtsboro to cultivate his own vegetable and flower gardens. The big, beautiful skies of Montana were also amongst his favorites. Steve was very proud to be part of the Wurtsboro Fire Company, where he had served for over 15 years. A gathering of good friends, good food, and good music always brought out the best in Steve. To know him was to love him and Steve's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched with his contagious smile, strong work ethic, and pride in all things good.
He is survived by his wife: Vicki Andrews Harrington, at home; two brothers: Michael Harrington of Benton City, WA and Tom Harrington & his wife Michele of Wurtsboro; two sisters: Catherine Marks of Newburgh and Teri Pinto & her husband Dane Horn of Wurtsboro; several nieces and nephews; and many many area friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 5 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 6 at 11:30am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Wurtsboro Fire Dept., P.O. Box 442, Wurtsboro, NY 12790.
