Marilyn Toomey of Forestburgh, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Carillon Nursing and Rehab Center in Huntington, NY.  She was 90.

The daughter of the late Walter Cook and Emily Rollman Cook, she was born November 9, 1933 in New York City. She was the widow of James Toomey, a former NY City Policeman.

Before becoming a full-time homemaker, she worked for the FBI in lower Manhattan and left that position to raise her two sons.  She then worked at A & S in Queens, moving to Forestburgh in the early 90s and worked in the local library and at the Office for the Aging.  She was a longtime member of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Forestburgh and remained active in senior community activities. After moving to Forestburgh, she enjoyed having her grandchildren visit and prepared lavish and legendary pancake and bacon breakfasts followed by dinners of baked ham.

She is survived by her two sons and their wives: Robert Toomey and Stacey McGlynn of Lloyd Harbor, NY, and James and Jean Toomey of Rockville Centre, NY; five grandchildren: Alexandra, Veronica, James, John and Owen; and one great grandchild, Jack.  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Joan Cook.

Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 13 at 10:00am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. Bob Porpora officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Forestburgh.
