Isaac Smith, a longtime resident of the area, departed this life on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at his home in Monticello. He was 75. The son of the late Vernell "Pete" Smith and Emma Watson Smith, he was born March 30, 1935 in Bromley, Alabama. Isaac, better known as "Zeek" to those that knew him, was employed by the Monticello High School for many years until he retired. He was also a fisherman and hunter, and known to many. He is survived by two sons: Carlton Sledge (Diane) of Monticello and Felix Smith (Nancy) of Loch Sheldrake; two daughters: Elaine Smith Mitchelle (Randy) of Greenville, NC and Kalondra Smith of Monticello; two brothers: Andrew Smith (Virginia) of Daphne, AL and Leon Smith (Beverley) of St. Louis, MO; two sisters: Claretha Smith Robinson (Joe) and Beulah Smith of Bromley, AL; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 23 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Bethlehem Temple Church, Fairground Road in Monticello. His funeral service will begin at 1:00pm at the church with Bishop Mervin Armstead officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
